Canal-front planting: Brackish canals mean salt in the air and sometimes in the irrigation. Clusia and cocoplum are the two hedges we recommend without hesitation; both are proven on Broward's waterways. Keep fertilizer light near seawalls — runoff goes straight to the canal.
Zero-lot-line reality: Much of newer Broward is built lot-line to lot-line. Podocarpus's 2-ft-wide clipped profile fits where nothing else does, and areca palms solve the second-story sightline problem that a height-limited hedge can't.
