Appearance:
Broad, spreading, flat-topped canopy of fine, fern-like bipinnate leaves.
From May into July the tree erupts in clusters of 4-inch flowers in flaming red-orange, each with one streaked white-and-yellow petal, followed by long, flat brown seed pods. Semi-deciduous — it drops its leaves briefly in late winter before flowering.

Can add 3–5 feet a year when young, giving usable shade within a few seasons.
